Been getting a lot of questions about these, so I figured I might as well put this up.
FAQ:
PINKY:ST -
What are Pinky:St?
- They are a series of small Japanese dolls, made out of plastic. They stand about 3 and a half inches tall, and each one comes with different outfits and accessories.
Whats so special about them?
- They are mix & matchable. Faces and clothing from one doll can be swapped with another, making for endless combinations. With over 100 individual official sets released, anything is pretty much possible.
What types are there?
- In addition to the general fashion dolls, there are limited edition collaboration sets. This include anime & manga figures from Fruits Basket, Air Gear, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, etc; in addition to Video Game releases like Street Fighter and Wild Arms. There are also a handful of garage kits available online. To date, there has only been one official male figure ever released: Agito/Akito from Air Gear.
Where can I buy them?
- If you are in Japan, just about anywhere to my knowledge. Outside of Japan, you have to find either an online importer or a local store that is willing to bring them in.
Kinokuniya Books is where I generally find mine in person, when I don't order them from places like HLJ.com or off of ebay.
How much do they cost?
- Individual dolls should cost about $9 to $12, and the limited edition sets can cost up to $45. Ebay prices for some out-of-print dolls can go for up to $95. There are bootlegs on ebay, so be careful when looking to buy.
Where can I find out more information about them?
- The best English site is
Pinky-Street.com. They stay up to date with new releases, and you can find plenty of faqs and even a photo gallery of every official doll released.
CUSTOMS -
Why make customs?
- There's a subculture of customizing the dolls into more characters through additional changes. Sometimes, it's just to round out an official set, like creating a personal favorite character that wasn't released, or simply just repainting a favorite outfit.
How long does it take?
- Each of my customs has a different timetable, based on how complex the customizing ends up being. The fastest I've ever completed one is about three weeks, and the longest took over seven months.
How much does it cost?
- It depends on which dolls I use as my base, and how big the extra pieces are that I need to build. I build each custom from at least three separate doll's pieces that I've purchased previously, so it varies based on the original prices of the dolls.
Do you sell them/make commissions?
- Not currently. I've only sold Orihime previously at an Art Show. This may change in the future.
